The Art of Storytelling: From Ancestral Memory to the Mic
Performance & Workshop by Sara Filali
Date: November 16, 2025 | Time: 2:00–3:30 PM
Location: Theater at the Student Center South, University of Houston
Join me in Houston for a 90-minute immersive storytelling experience hosted by the Islamic Arts Society. This workshop blends performance, reflection, and hands-on practice—inviting participants to explore how story becomes a vessel for memory, culture, and healing.
Drawing from my debut book, Hajeetek Majeetek: My Grandmother’s North African Folktales, we’ll journey through the art of oral storytelling—discovering how ancestral tales and personal narratives intertwine to shape who we are and how we connect to one another.
Whether you’re a writer, artist, educator, activist, or simply someone who has ever been moved by a story, this space is for you. Together, we’ll reflect, create, and share in a supportive, communal circle that celebrates voice, heritage, and imagination.
